Fencing Wins Weekend Tourney

Medford, Mass. -- The Boston College men's and women's fencing teams competed at Tufts University in a tournament against six other schools of non-conference dual meets this past weekend. The combined team scoring placed the Eagles first out of all seven schools. The women's team won all five of its matches and the men's team won three out of four dropping a 14-13 decision to the hosting Jumbos.
The Eagles were led by sophomore Tiffany White and fellow eppeeist senior Kate Boyle with 31-2 and 12-3 records, respectively. Senior foilist Allison Maher finished with an 11-4 mark on the day and fellow senior Elizabeth Lennox recorded a 10-4 mark in foil also. On the men's side freshman Brian Sohn earned an unblemished 9-0 in foil and sophomore Will Lawrie was 9-1 with the same weapon. Freshman Steve Moore won 9 of 11 matches in epee for Boston College.
The Eagles also had a contingent of competitors at the Junior Olympic Qualifiers in Waltham over the weekend. Three Eagles qualified for the Junior Olympics. Freshman Clara Yum finished third in epee and freshman Meghan O'Malley finished fifth in the same event. Sophomore Vanessa Eulo earned a fifth place finish in foil and all three women qualified with their results.
