BOSTON, Mass. - The Boston College men's hockey team downed Comm. Ave rival Boston University, 3-2, Friday night in front of 3,806 at BU's Walter Brown Arena. The win improves the Eagles to 8-0-1 (5-0-0 HE), while the Terriers fall to 5-2-2 (3-2-0 HE). With Boston College undefeated through the season's first nine games, the Eagles are off to their best start since 1949-50 when the team opened the season at 10-0.
The Terriers drew first blood, scoring at 7:29 of the first period. The goal marked the third time this season the Eagles have not scored the game's first goal.
Boston University didn't hold their lead for long, with junior Justin Dziama scoring his second goal of the season 22 seconds later. Dziama collected a rebound of a Ned Havern shot to beat BU goalie Sean Fields for the tally. Junior J.D. Forrest also collected an assist on the tally.
The Eagles took their first lead of the night at 12:23 of the first period on an Andrew Albert's blast from the blue line. Alberts received a pass from sophomore Dave Spina at the point and buried a slap-shot into the goal for his second tally of the season.
Boston College jumped ahead to a 3-1 advantage only 1:02 into the second period on a Ryan Shannon goal, his third of the season. Shannon broke into the BU zone and received a pass from freshman Chris Collins in between the circles and drilled the puck into the net.
After surrendering a goal at 10:07 of the second period to bring the score to 3-2, goalie Tim Kelleher and the Eagles' defense stepped up to keep BU off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.
Kelleher made 30 saves in net for the Eagles, while Fields made 27 saves for the Terriers.
BC is now 9-8-2 in the last 19 games against BU.
The Eagles return home after a five-game road trip on Tuesday, Nov. 19, when they host No. 2 New Hampshire. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
