NEWTON, Mass. - After a sluggish start, the Boston College women's soccer team scored three unanswered second-half goals and beat Pittsburgh, 3-1, Saturday afternoon at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
Down 1-0 at the break, the Eagles (9-6-1, 5-3-0 BIG EAST) came out of the locker room looking like a team on a mission, scoring two goals in the first 7:30. Freshman Katie McGregor tied it up at 49:20 on a sliding shot into the lower left-hand corner of the goal, off a free kick by junior Sarah Rahko.
Just over three minutes later, sophomore Lindsey Fairweather put a shot on net that Panthers goalkeeper Jamie Pelsui batted away. Freshman Kelly Lavery settled the ball next to the right post and fed Fairweather in front, and she put it home to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Senior Katherine Halloran added an insurance goal at 76:03 on a blistering shot just inside the near post from 15 yards out. Rahko was credited with the assist, her second of the game.
Erin Hills put Pittsburgh (3-12-0, 0-7-0 BE) up 1-0 at 11:20 with her third goal of the year. It was assisted on by Kendall Enmark.
The Eagles look to keep things rolling Sunday, Oct. 20, when they play host to Quinnipiac (2-8-1) at 2:30 p.m.
