Men's Tennis Takes Down Another Heavyweight

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - A week after notching its first win over an Ivy League school in more than 15 years, the men's tennis team pulled another shocker Friday at the Minnesota Invitational, beating Nebraska by what would have been a 6-1 margin.
Because the format of the event is disguised dual match play with no official team scoring, the win over the Cornhuskers, who finished last year ranked No. 72 in the country, is not official, but is impressive nonetheless.
The Eagles pulled off the upset by outlasting the 'Huskers at the newly opened Baseline Tennis Center. They went 4-1 in third-set tie-breakers, with those wins coming from juniors Justin Slattery (Central Catholic/Andover, Mass.), Ross Pytko (St. John's Prep [Shrewsbury]/Oxford, Mass.) and Paul Colahan (St. John's Prep [Danvers]/Beverly, Mass.) and sophomore Bob Murray (Jesuit/Kenner, La.). Slattery won his match after losing the first set.
Junior Brad Anderson (Edina/Edina, Minn.) and sophomore Derrick Chou (John Miller-Great Neck North/Great Neck, N.Y.) had an easier time in their singles matches, winning in straight sets.
Slattery and Anderson and Colahan and Murray teamed up to post doubles victories as well.
Later in the day, the Eagles met the Gophers, who were ranked No. 22 at the end of last year, in a singles-only matchup, with the host school taking five of seven matches. Colahan and Chou were the two Eagles that came out on the winning end, making them the only BC players to go 2-0 in singles play on the day.
The team plays Michigan State today at noon and Marquette at 4 p.m in a singles-only competition.
