Chestnut Hill, MA - For the first time since November 27, 2000 (when the team was ranked No. 25), the Boston College women's basketball team cracked the Associated Press Top 25. In the January 7 poll, the Eagles debuted at No. 24 with their 11-2 overall (2-0 BIG EAST) record.
The Eagle women's basketball team is the fourth major sport at Boston College to appear in the top 25 this fall and/or winter. Boston College's football, men's basketball and men's ice hockey teams have also been ranked among the nation's best.
With the success of the women's basketball program, Boston College is the only school in the nation to have its football, men's basketball, women's basketball, and men's ice hockey teams ranked in the AP Top 25. In the final football poll, the Eagles were ranked No. 21. In the current basketball poll, the Eagles are No. 16 while, in men's ice hockey, BC is No. 10.
Five schools in the country currently have both their men's and women's basketball teams in the top 25. In addition to Boston College, they are Duke, Florida, Oklahoma and Stanford. Throwing football into the mix, there are four schools in the nation with all three teams ranked. In addition to BC, those schools are Florida, Oklahoma and Stanford.
