CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College hosted Northeast Fencing Conference teams from MIT, Harvard, Brandeis, Brown and Dartmouth at an all-day meet at the Flynn Recreational Complex on Saturday. For the Eagles, it was a day of mixed team results highlighted by some outstanding individual efforts. The men were 2-3 on the day with a narrow loss to Harvard, bringing their record to 6-7 on the season while the women went 3-2, bringing their record to 6-6. The meet was held in front of the largest crowd ever to attend a home fencing meet at Boston College.
Sophomore foilist Paul Taylor won thirteen of his fifteen bouts, once again displaying the drive and athleticism that qualified him to the NCAA championships last season. In men's epee, senior Dave Slocum led his squad with an 8-4 individual record while the squad handed Brown its only conference defeat of the season. With it's toughest matches behind them, the mean could still manage to tie for third in the conference standings.
On the women's side, the epee squad continued it's winning ways, going undefeated as a squad against its toughest conference rivals. Freshman Tiffany White was 11-2 of the day, while teammates Kate Boyle and Gena Koufos were 8-5 and 10-5 respectively. The women stand poised to take third place in the conference, behind Harvard and MIT.
Next week, Boston College faces a tough day of dual meets against several nationally ranked teams at Brandeis University. Teams from NYU, UPenn, Duke, UNC, Cornell and Yeshiva will be present at the meet.
