Men's Track Places Second At Terrier Challenge Cup

BOSTON - The Boston College men's track and field team placed second out of eight teams at the Terrier Challenge Cup on Friday in the Boston University Armory. The Eagles finished with a team score of 67, which was 24 points behind the University of Maine.
Senior tri-captain Michael McKenzie and freshman Ryan Sullivan earned first-place results in their respective events. McKenzie edged out fellow Boston College teammate freshman John Kennedy in the 1,000-meter run, finishing with a time of 2:30.20 compared to Kennedy's time of 2:31.66.
Ryan Sullivan tied Isaiah Houtman of Holy Cross in the long jump competition, both finishing with marks of 6'02.00". Sullivan also finished fifth, out of 18 participants, in the 55-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 8.18.
Despite only having two first-place results, the Eagles had several strong performances on Friday. Junior Shawn Wallace placed third, out of 29 participants, in the one-mile run, finishing with a solid time of 4:17.60. Senior James Mann fell short of winning the 800-meter run as he finished with a time of 1:59.02, which was only four second behind winner Ryan Harkleroad of Maine.
Freshman Geoff Atkins continued his strong indoor season as he finished runner-up in the 200-meter dash, finishing with a time of 22.65. His time was only two-tenths of a second behind first-place finisher Tim Constant of New Hampshire. Junior Brian Mahoney earned a fourth-place result in the 3,000-meter run as he turned in a time of 8:40.68.
Senior tri-captain Tony Bierne finished the afternoon with second- and sixth-place results in the 35 lbs. weight throw and shot put, respectively. He turned in a mark of 50'04.75" in the weight throw and followed that up with a mark of 42'11.00" in the shot put. Sophomore Keith Normant placed second in the triple jump, finishing with a mark of 42'08.00, which was less than two feet behind winner Brett McIntire of Maine.
The men's track and field team is back in action Friday and Saturday, January 25 and 26, in the Boston University Terrier Classic at the BU Armory.
