CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Following a season-opening 4-3 double-overtime loss to in-state rival UMass-Amherst six days ago, the Boston College women's soccer team jumps back in to action at 4:30 p.m. Friday against the University of Georgia in the opening contest of the UConn/Diadora Classic in Storrs, Conn.
In the day's second game, the University of Connecticut will take on Ohio State University in the second game of day, which starts at 7 p.m. The Classic concludes on Sunday when Boston College takes on Ohio State at 11 a.m. and UConn plays Georgia at 1:30 p.m.
This will be the first meeting between the Eagles and Bulldogs. Georgia (1-0-1) enters Friday's game having defeated Rutgers University 2-1 and tying Wake Forest University 0-0. In the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, Georgia is receiving votes into the top 25 due in part to there strong start.
Georgia suffered a major loss in last Sunday's game against Wake Forest when forward Jessica Winton and defender Ki VanOudenallen both went out with knee injuries. Winton will be gone from the lineup for three weeks with a sprain of her medial collateral ligament. VanOudenalled is out for the year with a tear of her anterior cruciate ligament.
The Eagles received a strong performance from senior forward Meghan Moore in the season opener. Moore tallied one goal and one assist in the game against UMass. For her career, she has scored 19 goals and dished out 25 assists. Freshman midfielder Lindsey Fairweather scored her first collegiate goal against the Minutewomen.
