Women's Cross Country Ranked Second Nationally In Preseason Poll

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - After finishing fourth nationally following the 2000 cross country season, the Boston College women's team enters 2001 with high expectations. This is evident by the 2001 FinishLynx/NCAA Division I Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll, which was released on Saturday, September 1. Boston College is ranked No. 2 in the season's first poll.
The Eagles received 278 points and three of a possible 12 first-place votes, while defending national champion Colorado was chosen as the nation's preseason top-ranked team, as it received 298 points and nine first-place votes. Stanford (273 votes), Brigham Young (269) and Wisconsin (251) rounded out the top five ranked teams.
Other BIG EAST schools ranked in the first season poll were Georgetown (No. 11), Providence (No. 13) and Villanova (No. 22).
Boston College's women's cross country team kicks off the 2001 season at 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 14, when it hosts Central Connecticut State, Iona, Northeastern, Providence, New Hampshire and Connecticut at Franklin Park in Boston.
