Summer's Over
As quickly as summer came this year, it ended even faster. I can't
believe that preseason is here. Unlike last year (my freshman year), I
wasn't very nervous about coming back to college. I knew what to expect
and I couldn't wait to get back and see my teammates and meet the new
players that are joining the programs. So on Friday, August 17th, it
was off to BC we go...
First Thoughts When I Arrived
As I approached the Boston College entrance this year, I couldn't wipe
the smile off my face. It felt so good to be back. After I got
settled, I got to meet some of the new players and I could tell that
they were going to fit in right away. The only thing that was weird
this year was that my best friend and roommate - Sarah Rahko - was
missing from camp. She and two of our captains, Meghan Moore and Rachel
Parri, were off at the national championships for their W1-League team,
the Boston Renegades (they won the national title). Soon after we had a
BBQ and that my teammates and parents a chance to meet and catch up.
There was a lot more talking than eating going on, but that's a good
think because we all missed each other.
Fitness Testing
On Saturday morning, the team would head over to Newton North to
complete our fitness testing. Each player on the team would have to
complete the following: 1) run one mile in six minutes and 15 seconds
then get a five minute rest, 2) run one 400-yard sprint (one time
around the track) in eighty seconds then get a three minute rest, 3)
finally run another 400-yard sprint in eighty seconds and it would all be over
if you passes all three requirements! Piece of cake, right?
On the Field
This year's training session have been incredible. Everyone is working
extremely hard and I think that we are looking really good. Coach Foley
and Chris Hamblin, our assistant coach, have been working really hard to
make our training sessions as competitive as can be. Chris introduced
our team to "dynamic stretching" which really helps get our legs warmed
up and Coach has incorporated fitness in our drills which really gets us
in game shape. I think that we have one of the greatest coaching
staffs in the country.
Off the Field
This year our team has gotten along so well and that is really
important. Team chemistry is extremely important because if you can
trust your teammates and get along well with the girls on the team, you
are going to work harder for them and that can be the difference in a
critical game. Even the newcomers are extremely upbeat and that's a
good sign. The coaches are great as well and I think that it's going to
be a fun year.
Our First Test
This past Sunday we got our first test against someone else besides
ourselves. We scrimmaged Southern Connecticut and also Yale and we were
victorious. I was extremely happy with the way the team played. I
think we passed our test and I'm anxious to start the season.
