Women's Soccer Falls To No. 23 Syracuse 3-2 In Overtime

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Boston College women's soccer team dropped its second-consecutive BIG EAST Conference game on Sunday as it lost to No. 23-ranked Syracuse University 3-2 in overtime. The loss drops the Eagles to 1-5-1 on the season, 0-2-1 in the conference.
The Eagles jumped on the board early when sophomore midfielder Sarah Rahko capitalized on a misplay by a Syracuse defender and the slid the ball past Orangeman goalkeeper Shannon Myers. Rahko now leads the team in goals (4) and total points (9).
With less than one minute remaining in the first half, Syracuse got on the board when midfielder Molly Schmelzle scored off a give-and-go from forwards Candy Reich and Erin Parsons.
With the game tied 1-1 through 85 minutes, Boston College took the lead when forward Kristen Goddard scored her first career goal in the 86th minute when the ball deflected off a Syracuse defender. The Orangemen were able to strike back quickly when Parson's nailed the ball in the far corner from inside the box off an assist from defender Courtney Spencer in the 88th minute to knot the score up at 2-2.
In overtime, Syracuse put the game away when Reich headed the ball in the net off a corner kick from defender Tracy Stalker in the 95th minute. With the win, the Orangemen move to 6-2 overall, 2-1 in the BIG EAST.
Syracuse outshot Boston College 22 to 14. This was the first time all season the Eagles were outshot by their opponent.
Boston College is back in action at 3 p.m. Tuesday when it takes on in-state rival Boston University at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
