CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Boston College field hockey team was edged by Syracuse, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College in a battle of unbeaten BIG EAST teams. With the loss, Boston College falls to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the BIG EAST. The Orangewomen improved to 6-2 overall/2-0 BIG EAST.
Both teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half behind some evenly matched field hockey. The Eagles used the second half to take control of the game, outshooting Syracuse 5-3 and outcornering them 5-4 in the final 30 minutes. All Syracuse would need, however, was one shot taken with 33 seconds left on the clock. It was then that Missy Grosman connected on a rebound from a nicely-executed penalty corner play.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday evening when they host Rhode Island in a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game at Alumni Stadium.
