Women's Soccer Battles To 2-2 Tie With Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Boston College women's soccer team began the 2001 BIG EAST portion of its schedule on Sunday afternoon against Providence College. Both teams struggled through 120 minutes as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
The Eagles move to 1-3-1 overall, 0-0-1 in the BIG EAST, while the Friars move their record to 3-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference.
Providence got on the board first when forward Caitlyn Welsh scored in the 20th minute of the game off an assist from midfielder Maura Robertson.
After not scoring against Dartmouth in last Wednesday's contest, the Eagles finally ended their scoring drought when freshman midfielder Lindsey Fairweather tallied her second goal of the season in the 32nd minute of the contest. She was assisted on the play by junior forward Carolyn Iacobelli, who finished the game with both Boston College assists.
Providence jumped on the board first in the second half when midfielder Veronica Bakke scored unassisted in the 57th minute of the game. This was her second goal of the season for the Friars.
The Eagles were able to respond again as in the 69th minute sophomore forward Sarah Rahko scored off an assist from Iacobelli. Rahko's goal was her third of the season, and now gives her 11 over her short two-year career.
Boston College finished the game with 17 shots compared to Providence's 12. This is the fifth-straight game that the Eagles have outshot their opponent.
The Eagles are back in action at 3 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, against the University of Rhode Island at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
