Women's Soccer Drops Home Opener To Dartmouth 3-0

NEWTON, Mass. - Following a ten-day layoff due to the tragedies in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania, the Boston College women's soccer team was back in action on Wednesday against Ivy League power Dartmouth College at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
The Eagles were coming off a 3-1 victory over Ohio State while Dartmouth was playing its first game of the season. On this day, the Big Green came out on top as they defeated the Eagles 3-0.
Dartmouth recorded its first goal at the 8:26 mark of the first half when forward Annie Gibson scored off an assist from Mary McVeigh as she chipped the ball over Boston College goalkeeper Meredith Crotty's head.
With less than 15 minutes remaining in the first half, Dartmouth midfielder Jaime Lang scored the second goal of the game when she place the ball perfectly over Crotty's head from right outside the 18-yard mark. The Big Green went into the half with a 2-0 lead.
Boston College came out in the second half with a great deal of energy, but if was to no avail as it could not get a shot by either Julie Shields (first-half goalkeeper) or Anne Marbarger (second-half goalkeeper). Both goalies combined for 10 saves. The Eagles finished the game with 15 shots, 10 of which were on net, to the Big Green's 13 shots.
Dartmouth put an exclamation point on the game when Gibson struck again in the 89th minute when she maneuvered around Crotty, who was playing outside of her box, and slid the ball in the back of the net.
With the loss, Boston College drops to 1-3 on the season, while Dartmouth moves to 1-0.
The Eagles are back in action at 4 p.m. Friday when they travel to take on Providence College in their first BIG EAST game of the season.
