We're finally back in the races!!! This past weekend was a huge turn around for the team. On Friday, we beat #24 ranked Miami, 4-2. We came out with more intensity and heart than they did. We simplified our game and played as a team, both on offense and defense. I think everyone felt confident and excited to play at home against Miami.
Sunday's game made a mark in the BC women's soccer history. For the first time in eleven years, we beat UConn. We didn't just beat them according to the score, we were the more determined, hard working, and confident team on the field. It seemed that in Sunday's game, everything managed to come together the way we would have liked it to all season. Everyone played incredible. This was the best performance our team has displayed this season.
On the field the energy and intensity was incredible. There was absolutely no doubt in any one of our minds that we were going to end this game being the victors. The feeling that we had after beating UConn is one that is hard to describe.... I can start out by describing it as one of the most exciting moments in my soccer career.
For me, this game meant a lot. For some reason UConn has always been a personal rival for me. In my four years here, we have met them two or more times each season and haven't had success against them. There was absolutely no way that I was going to let them beat us my senior year. I prepared the psyche for the team before the game. My theme was a disco party. We all danced in the locker room under the black light to "We are Family." It is the most energy we have ever had before a game. We were ready to beat UConn and we did.
This Wednesday's game against in-state rivals, Harvard, is just as important if not more important than the ones this past weekend. We are playing as a team and having fun, we just have to keep our focus and continue rolling in the same direction.
