As this weekend was approaching, each one of knew that this was a weekend that could make or break our season. We had already dug a hole with two losses last weekend to BIG EAST opponents. This week on Tuesday, we picked up a good win against Boston University and we kept our heads high coming into one of the most critical weekends in our season.
We would face nationally-ranked Miami and nationally-ranked UConn. These were both BIG EAST conference opponents....
Coming into Friday's game, every player on our team had high hopes and it showed by the way we handled Miami. We outshot them and clearly dominated the entire game. We pulled away with a 4-2 victory and Friday afternoon and extended our winning streak to two games.
Right after the game, there was no time to celebrate the Miami victory. We had to worry about UConn, an opponent everyone loves to hate. The Boston College/UConn rivalry had gone on for a decade and UConn had always come up with the "W". If there was a year that we felt we could win, it was this year. We had UConn coming to OUR home.
Sunday morning, we had a team brunch and everyone was ready to take UConn one and come out with a victory. There were no doubts that we could do this. The locker room was insane with people dancing and getting pumped up for the game. As soon as game time came, we carried that momentum out onto the field.
From the start of the game, we came out like balls of fire and we got ourselves on the scoreboard in three minutes. Many opportunities came for them, as well as us, but there was a mentality out there that, "UConn was not scoring today!" We found ourselves with a cushion in the beginning of the second half. Up 2-0 was noting much in soccer because if we game up a goal it could be a different game.
Well, we stayed strong and every player on the field put her heart and soul into the game. Beating UConn is a great feeling and it helps us with confidence for the remainder of the season. We gave Coach Foley "her best coaching moment" and that was amazing. Every player on our team is holding her head high and getting ready for Harvard on Wednesday and two BIG EAST games this weekend against Georgetown and Virginia Tech.
