Farmington, Conn. - Incoming Boston College women's basketball player and 2001 Parade Magazine All-American Clare Droesch (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) has been named one of the "Top 21 New Players of Impact for 2001-02" as announced by WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.COM August 2.
Droesch, a 5-11 guard, is no stranger to honors and awards, having accumulated 2001 Phoenix/WBCA All-America honors, New York state sports' writers Player of the Year and New York state Player of the Year following the 2000-01 season. In addition, Droesch has participated in the Nike All-America camps and has made an appearance on all-star teams tabbed by USA Today, Street & Smith, New York Daily News and New York News Day.
Droesch, one of the most highly recruited freshman in this year's national class, was ranked in the top 25 of several prep magazines, including No. 3 by Front Court Press, No. 8 by Rivals and No. 25 by Blue Star Index. During her final year with perennial powerhouse Christ the King High School, she averaged 20.4 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 4.0 steals per game. Droesch's Christ the King squad was ranked as high as third nationally in 2000-01 and finished the season at 27-2.
To make the WOMENSCOLLEGEHOOPS.COM "Top 21 New Players of Impact," a player must be in her first playing year at her respective school where her presence is anticipated to make a significant difference to that squad from day one.
