Wulff Tabbed BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

Providence, R.I. - Boston College senior defender Amelie Wulff (Duesseldorf, Germany) was named BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year, as announced Thursday by the BIG EAST conference office. In addition, the Eagles were tied for third place with Rutgers in the preseason poll. Both votes were determined by conference field hockey coaches.
Syracuse and Connecticut each received 21 points to tie for the No. 1 spot in the 2001 BIG EAST Field Hockey preseason coaches poll. The Orangewomen garnered four first-place votes, while Connecticut, the defending BIG EAST regular season and tournament champion, received the final two. Boston College and Rutgers tied for third in the poll, with 14 points each.
In 2000, Boston College finished 10-8 with a 2-3 conference mark. The Eagles return six starters and eight letterwinners from that squad and will be led by Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Wulff. Last year, Wulff was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team and was her team's leading scorer with nine goals and two assists for 20 points, despite spending most of her time in the backfield.
The 2001 BIG EAST Championship will be held at Boston College's Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill, Mass., on November 3-4.
