Track Competes In The Final Day Of BIG EAST

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Boston College men and women's track and field teams competed in the final day of the BIG EAST Championship, today, at the Bauer Track and Field Complex on the Livingston campus of Rutgers University. The women's team took 11th place and men's team finished in 14th,, both out of 14 teams.
Competing in the finals of the 1500 meter run, Shannon Smith took second place with a time of 4:26.35. Following, Laura Smith took sixth place with a time of 4:28.48. Sharon Van Tuyl finished in fourth place in the 5000 run with a time of 16:49.97. In the hammer, Megan Kearney threw 40.14 meters for 12th place.
The 4x800 relay made up of Shannon Smith, Laura Smith, Katie Ryan and Jenifer Vendetti, took seventh place with a 9:06.20.
Running the 5000 meter race, Mark Fonnemann took ninth with a time of 14:51.58. Jeff Normant ran a 53.66 in the finals of the 400 intermediate hurdles, good for fourth place.
In the 4x400 relay, Gabe Verdaguer, Mark Johnson, Keith Normant and Jeff Normant took 11th place with a 3:21.98. The 4x800 relay of made up Michael McKenzie, Shawn Wallace, Vernon Mickle and Dan Fitzgerald took fifth place running a 7:39.92.
Winning the women's BIG EAST title was Miami. Georgetown won the men's title
The Boston College men's track and field teams will compete in the in the New England championship on Thursday, May 10 at the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. The women will also compete in the New England Championship but at Williams College on Friday. May 11.
