Track Competes At the ECAC And ICAAAA Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Boston College women's track and field team competed in the ECAC Championship and the men's team competed in the ICAAAA Championship on Thursday, May 17 through Sunday, May 20. Both events were held at William Weaver Stadium on the campus of Princeton University. The women took 24th place with 12 points and the men did not place.
Taking the highest finish for the Eagles, Shannon Smith won the preliminary round of the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:21.12, setting a personal best and improving her second place time in the BC record book. In the finals Shannon Smith took third with a time of 4:25.31. Also running in the preliminaries of the 1,500-meter race, Laura Smith took 14th (4:26.74), Katie Ryan finished 22 (4:35.50) and Jen Donovan took 28th (4.43.59).
Finishing third in the 3,000-meter run, Laura Smith ran a 9:35.35. In the women's 5,000-meter run, Julie Spolidoro ran a 17:20.37 for 18th place. Following, Sharon Van Tuyl took 20th (17:22.12) and Danielle Jelley finished 27th (17:34.87).
Competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Donovan took fifth place with a time of 10:35.15. In the discus, Megan Kearney threw 39.46-meters and took 22nd place. Taking 11th in the heptathlon, Christina Regan collected 4,383 points.
In the men's events, Gabe Verdaguer took 11th place in the decathlon with 6,217 points. In the discus, Tony Beirne finished 25th with a throw of 43.10 meters. In the 4x800 relay, the Eagles took 13th with a time of 7:41.83.
Winning the women's ECAC Championship was Georgetown with 87 points. In the men's ICAAAA Championship, Georgetown also won but with 77 points.
