Men's Track Competes In Day One Of New Englands

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Boston College men's track and field team competed in the first day of the New England Championships at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex, on the campus of the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn., today.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Jeff Normant took eighth place with a time of 53.54. Placing ninth in the 800-meter run with a 1:52.98 was Vernon Mickle. Following in the same event was Mike McKenzie with a 1:53.69, good for 15th place. John Dudley took 15th place (3:56.32) in the 1,500-meter run and Shawn Wallace took 24th (4:00.26).
Winning the 5, 000-meter, Justin Burdon ran a 14:29.72, taking the Eagles only first place finish. In the same event Mark Fonneman finished 16th (15:04.30), Byron Gartrell finished 17th (15:04.30) and Andy Shaffer took 21st (15:06.64). With a time of 32:26.60, Christian Deluke took 13th in the 10,000-meter run.
Finishing eighth in the 3,000-meter steeple chase, Brian Mahoney ran a 9:22.83. Following Nate Buttrick took 18th with a 9:50,60. Gabe Verdaguer took sixth in the long jump, jumping 23'1.75". In the discus, Tony Bierne threw 153'2" for ninth place.
Boston College's men's track and field take part in day two of the New England Championship tomorrow, Saturday, May 12, at 9:00 a.m. at Connecticut.
