Men's Tennis Splits First Two Matches In Hawaii

HONOLULU, Hawaii - The Boston College men's tennis team lost to Hawaii on Monday, March 5, 7-0 at the Pearly Harbor Tennis Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. Rebounding on Tuesday, March 6, the Eagles defeated Chaminade 5-1, at Bringham Young also in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Against Hawaii, Justin Slattery fell to Amandeep Singh 6-2 and 6-1. Jason Cowett fell 6-2 and 6-0 to Roggie Moraleje. Also falling in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-4, Ross Pytko was defeated by Francisco Bringnole. Hawaii's Malino Oda dominated his match against BC's Paul Colahan, 6-0 and 6-1. Marc Lucero fell to Jorge Gonzalez 6-4 and 6-3. After winning the first set 7-6, Colin Kennedy eventually lost the match to Jeremy Perez 7-5.
The next day, the Eagles turned around and beat Chaminade. Winning 6-1 and 6-3, Slattery defeated Klaron MeGarthey. While Cowett won against Albert Takakowa 6-0 and 6-1. Pytko shut out Mark Grueters in the first set 6-0 and then won with a 6-2 second set. Defeating Lawrence Chan, Colahan won both sets by a score of 6-2. The fifth win for the Eagles came from Damon Vartabedian when he defeated Brian Church in three sets, 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1. Defeated by Lance Tawoyoe, Lucero fell 2-6 and 3-6.
The Boston College men's tennis team improves to 6-6 overall and remains 1-0 in BIG EAST play.
