Skiing Completes Season At USCSA Nationals

BOGUS BASIN, Idaho - The Boston College men's and women's skiing teams completed their participation in the USCSA National Championship Race in Bogus Basin, Idaho. On F riday, March 9, 2001, the women's team competed in the slalom races and came in 3rd place in this event. The men's team competed on Saturday, March 10, 2001, in the slalom event, placing 5th. Overall, the women's team placed 4th while the men's team pulled in at 6th place at the Championships.
Leading the women in the slalom event was junior Christina Gush, who placed 5th in the slalom. Gush, on Wednesday, earned first team All-American honors for her third year in a row. Teammate and second team All-American Lori Williams placed 16th in Friday's slalom race.
Also competing in the slalom event for Boston College was Jennifer Runco, who placed 20th. Erica Pylman finished 13th in the event. The women's slalom event had 79 competitors.
Taking first place honors in the women's slalom was Plymouth State College's Anda Curuta. Curuta also placed first in Wednesday's giant slalom. Team titles were presented to Sierra Nevada College (1st place), Whitman College (2nd place), and, as previously mentioned, Boston College (3rd place). Altogether, 25 colleges and universities were represented in the women's slalom event.
On the men's side, Boston College was led by second team All-American freshman Seth Therrien in the men's slalom. Therrien took 9th place in Saturday's races. Senior John Valentine took 14th place. Michael Duran and David Giulietti took 34th and 35th places, respectively. There were 95 competitors in the men's slalom event.
Winning the men's slalom event was Sierra Nevada College's Michael Allgaeuer. Team titles were presented to Sierra Nevada College (1st place), Plymouth State College (2nd place), and Green Mountain College (3rd place). Sixteen colleges and universites were represented in the men's slalom event.

The Boston College Skiing Team has completed their regular and post season events for the 2001 season. They will resume official competition in the Winter of 2002.
