Binghamton, N.Y. - The Boston College wrestling team comepeted in dual meet action this weekend in Binghamton, N,Y. Present at the meet were teams from Binghamton University, Ithaca College and, of course, Boston College. The Eagles lost their two bouts on the day versus Binghamton and Ithaca, both by a tally of 37-7. Boston College's dual meet record presently stands at 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the ECWA Conference.
Leading the Eagles was senior captain Dan Degan, who improved his dual meet record to 8-2 (20-10 overall) with his victories against Jeff McAvery of Binghamton (13-5) and Locre of Ithaca (14-1). Jared McLaughlin also wrestled well for BC. He was defeated by Binghamton's Steve Lane (9-0) before he picked up a win against Ithaca (15-7). McLaughlin's overall record now stands at 8-13.
On Friday, February 9, 2001, Boston College will host a dual meet competition against ECWA conference member Sacred Heart University. The meet will be held in the Power Gym (Conte Forum) in Chestnut Hill, MA, and is expected to begin at 7:00 p.m. Boston College heavyweight Antonio Garay will wrestle at the event. Garay, who has been practicing with the team for the past two weeks, has been unable to compete this year because of a football injury. He is Boston College's first All-Amerian wrestling selection and the winner of the Gorarian Award at the NCAA Championships for the most falls (3) in the least amount of time (8:54). Garay's 20-2 overall record during the 1999-2000 season (10-0 dual meet record, 5-0 ECWA record, 3-0 ECWA tournament, 6-2 NCAA tournament) earned him the number one ranking in the national heavyweight division heading into the 2000-2001 campaign.
