Skiing To Compete At US Collegiate Championships

Waterville Valley, NH - The Boston College ski team decided to pass on their invitation to the NCAA Eastern Regional Tournament in order to compete in the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships in Waterville Valley, NH. Plymouth State College's men's and women's teams led all schools, taking gold medal honors in both the slalom and giant slalom races. Boston College's men's team tied for third place with Green Mountain College at the Championships, earning four points with their fourth place finish in the slalom and three points with their third place finish in the giant slalom event. On the women's, the Eagles took third place overall, taking first in the slalom and fifth in the giant slalom events.
Individually, Plymouth State College's Tim Mitchell and Fred Debaets tied for first place in the men's events while Anda Curuta took first place honors on the women's side. Boston College freshman Seth Therrien finished sixth in the slalom and seventh in the giant slalom races, earning him nineteen total points and a fifth place finish overall. Junior Christina Gush of Boston College took second place in the slalom event for the fifth time this year and proceeded to place fourth in the giant slalom event, continuing her stellar performance on the slopes this year. Gush tied for second place overall with Smith College's Kelley Duran. Lori Williams' strong third place finish in the giant slalom, coupled with her thenth place finish in the slalom race, earned her fourth place individually at the Championships.
Boston College's strong finish at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships has earned both teams an invitation to compete in the U.S. Collegeiate Championships in Boise, Idaho. The Championships will take place from March 7-10, 2001.
