Women's Track Takes Fifth At New Englands

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Boston College women's track and field team competed in the New England Championships on Fri., Feb 23 and Sat., Feb. 24 at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. At the conclusion of the final day, Boston College took fifth place out of 30 teams.
Competing in the first day of competition, Zoey O'Sullivan finished with a time of 7.32 and in eighth place in the 55-meter dash. Nikki Pogue followed taking 11th place. In her second event of the day, O'Sullivan took 12th place in the 200-meter dash. With a time of 1:00.38, Melissa Connell took eighth place in the 400-meter.
In second place, Jen Vendetti ran a 1:16.64 in the 500-meter race. In seventh, in the same event, Lauren Claudia finished in 1:17.14. Finishing in seventh place in the 1,000-meter run, Lisa McIssac ran a 3:04.84. In the 55-meter low hurdles, Kate Sullivan ran to a 12th place finish. Later in the day, Sullivan took 16th in the long jump. Performing a personal best, Christina Regan scored 3360 points in the pentathlon and took second place.
Entering the second day of competition, the Eagles sat in eighth place out of 24 places.
In Saturday's competition, the Eagles jumped three spots to fifth. In the finals of the 55-meter, O'Sullivan ran a 7.27 to a seventh place finish. Claudia and Vendetti took back-to-back finishes in the finals of the 500-meter dash, finishing second (1:15.85) and third (1:16.11), respectively. Taking 10th place overall, Lisa McIssac ran a 3:12.88.
In the 3,000-distance event, Danielle Jelley won with a time of 9:53.05. Following in second, Jennifer Donovan ran a 10:02.88.
In the 4x400 relay, O'Sullivan, Rachel D'Amora, Claudia and Vendetti ran to third place with a time of 3:58.79.
Winning the 2001 New England Indoor Championships was Connecticut.
The Boston College women's track and field team will next compete at the ECAC Championship at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Sat. March 3 and Sun. March 4. Time to be announced.
