BOSTON (AP) - Gwen Jacskon hits 9 of 10 free throws in the final 8:05 and finished with 15 points Wednesday night as No. 2 Tennessee earned a hard-fought 75-66 win over Boston College.
Kara Lawson led the way with 16 points, Michelle Snow had 14 and Brittany Jackson 11 as the Lady Vols (6-0) pulled away midway through the second half and hung on despite a late Boston College charge.
Becky Gottstein scored 14 points for the Eagles (3-2) and became the 14th player in school history to surpass 1,000 points. Clare Droesch and Nicole Conway also had 14 points.
The Eagles, who trailed 37-33 at the half, closed to 47-45 on Kim Mackie's second free throw with 9:17 to play.
Both teams then went cold before the Lady Vols went on a 19-5 run over 3:54 to seize control.
The Eagles closed to 68-64 with 1:44 left on Conway's second of two 3-pointers, shot 11 seconds apart. They had it down to 70-66 on Maureen Leahy's basket with 36.8 seconds left, but Gwen Jackson made three free throws and Lawson made a pair to seal it.
Tennessee, winners by a margin of 32.6 points in its first five games, was coming off a 93-56 victory over then-No. 8 North Carolina State last Sunday.
The Lady Vols started quickly, combining good shooting with pressure defense to open a 33-20 lead. Tennessee hit 12 of its first 17 shots and forced five BC turnovers in the first five minutes.
The Eagles responded with a 13-4 run over the final 5:56 of the half and trailed by four at the break.
It was the third straight season the schools have played, with Tennessee winning each time.
