Miami, FL - The Boston College women's basketball team topped UAB, 65-46, Friday afternoon in the first round of the Sun & Fun Classic at Florida International's Golden Panther Arena. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season and have won their last five games. UAB falls to 8-4. The Eagles earned the right to face Florida International (winners over Ball State) in the championship game Saturday at 4 pm.
After finding themselves down 12-4 at the 16:55 mark of the first half, the Eagles buckled down and rallied off nine unanswered points to take their first lead (13-12) at the 13:10 mark. From that point on, BC never trailed, allowing UAB to tie the game on two occasions.
In the second half, Boston College held UAB to 5-of-25 shooting from the field while expanding its lead to as many as 20. The Eagles used a balanced offensive attack to seal the victory, shooting 43.5% from the field. BC forced 21 turnovers to committing just 10.
Freshman Clare Droesch (Belle Harbor, NY) led the way for BC with 16 points, marking the second straight game she's led the team in scoring. Junior forward Adriana Spears (Stratford, CT) collected a season and career-high 12 points to go with nine boards. Guard Nicole Conway (Glenmont, NY) added a dozen points of her own, having a solid all-around game with seven rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Finally, guard Amber Jacobs (Clarks Summitt, PA) added 11 points to round out the double digit performers.
After Sunday's Sun & Fun Classic Championship game, the Eagles will return home for the start of their BIG EAST schedule. BC will host St. John's January 2 and then Seton Hall January 5.
