Top-Seeded Syracuse Eliminates Fourth-seeded Rutgers, 3-2

CHESTNUT HILL, MA -- The top-seeded Syracuse Orangewomen used a three-goal second half to come from behind and top fourth-seeded Rutgers, 3-2, in the first semifinal game of the 2001 BIG EAST Field Hockey Championship Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium on the campus of Boston College. Syracuse improves to 14-3 overall and 6-0 against BIG EAST foes while Rutgers falls to 4-13 overall and 1-5 against BIG EAST foes.
The Scarlet Knights jumped into the scoring column first with an early first-half goal scored by Heidi Harvey and assisted by Leann Grondski. The 1-0 margin would hold through the first half.
Syracuse opened the second half with a goals from BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year Kristin Aronowicz at the 25:23 mark to tie the game. After Rutgers' Andschana Mendes gave Rutgers a slim 2-1 lead, Syracuse struck for two goals and the win. Michelle Aronowicz and Ann-Marie Guglieri connected for the win.
Syracuse will face the other semifinal winner Villanova in the 2001 BIG EAST Championship Sunday at 12 noon.
