Five Women's Soccer Player Named To All-NEWISA Teams

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - With the 2001 season over for the Boston College women's soccer team, the postseason awards have started to roll in following a successful season which saw the Eagles advance to the NCAA tournament. Five members of the 2001 squad were named to the New England Women's Intercollegiate Soccer Association first or second teams.
Heading up the first team was seniors Meghan Moore and Rachel Parri and sophomore Sarah Rahko. Earning second-team honors were sophomore Elyse Meredith and freshman Lindsey Fairweather.
Moore, a forward, finished second on the team in total points, finishing with 25 points (nine goals, seven assists). Over her four years, she started and played in all 83 games for head coach Alison Foley's squad. She tallied 26 goals and dished out 31 assists for a total of 83 points or her career.
Parri, a defender, was one of the stable points in the Boston College defense. In 2001, she started and played in all 22 games and for her career she played in 84 contests. She closed out her career with two goals and eight assists for a total of 12 points.
Rahko, a midfielder, was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and also to all-conference first team. She was an offensive threat every time she touched the ball and this was evident by her nine goals and eight assists. Her eight assists and 26 total points led the Eagles this season.
Meredith, a goalkeeper, joined the Boston College team following the fifth game of the season. Before taking over the reigns in goal, the Eagles had a 1-5-1 record. By the end of the season with Meredith in goal, she had won 10 of their next 17 games. She finished the season with four shutouts and a1.64 goals against average. One of her shutout came against ninth-ranked Connecticut in Newton, Mass. The Eagles defeated the Huskies 2-0 and Meredith registered 10 saves.
The final member of the all-NEWISA team was midfielder Lindsey Fairweather. Fairweather finished the season starting in 21 of 22 games, while recording five goals and one assist. Here 11 points ranked her fourth on the team.
