Wrestling Competes At East Stroudsburg Open

East Stroudsburg, PA. - The Boston College wrestling squad competed this weekend at the 35th Annual East Stroudsburg University Open Wrestling Tournament. The tournament was held at the LeRoy J. Koehler Fieldhouse in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania.
The Eagles were challenged by stiff competition in all weight brackets. In the 133 pound bracket, sophomore Ricky Merritt was pinned by North Carolina's Evan Sola at 3:15 in the first round. Freshman grappler Nate Poole was defeated by North Carolina's Keith Bolte by a tally of 6-1 in the 141 pound bracket and Mike Payack was defeated by Adam James (unattached) 3-0 in round two of the 149 pound championship bracket. Senior Marty Black was pinned by Lehigh's Aaron Peterson at 1:53 while Ben Slaughter was defeated by Ryan Wasser 1-0 and Matt Gaimari was pinned at 1:00 by Dan Thoman (L.H.U) in the first round of the 165 pound bracket.
Wrestling well for the Eagles was junior Brad Shemluck. Shemluck went 1-1 on the day, defeating Clarion's Ryan Pataky 5-2 before losing to Dan Roy (unattached) in round two. BC's Chris Hunt was pinned by Matt Corcoran at 0:36 and Kevin McDonald was pinned by Chaz Wilder at 1:12.
Boston College wrestling will host their next meet on Saturday, December 8th. Matches are slated to begin at 4 p.m. and will take place on campus in the Power Gym.
