Men's Swimming And Diving Upended By UConn 213-83

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The future looks bright for the Boston College men's swimming and diving team (1-4, 1-2 BIG EAST) and that was evident by the strong performances of freshmen Justin Welch and Brandon Twichell in Saturday meet against the University of Connecticut at the Flynn Recreation Complex. The Huskies went on to defeat the Eagles 213-83.
Welch and Twichell both turned in first-place performances by winning the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Welch edged out teammate Matthew Baker in the sprint-freestyle event by 30 one-hundredths of a second. Welch finished with a time of 22.48 compared to Baker's 22.78. Baker bounced back in the 100-yard freestyle by placing second with a time of 49.94, while Welch finished third with a time of 50.63.
Twichell breezed by the competition in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:15.64. Freshmen Michael Dellamano earned a runner-up finish in the 100-yard butterfly for the Eagles, finishing with a time of 55.79.
The men's swimming and diving team is back in action on Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1, in the Northeastern University Invitational in Boston.
