CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Midfielder Sarah Rahko and goalkeeper Elyse Meredith were named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively, after leading the Boston College women's soccer team to perfect 3-0 week.
The Eagles (4-5-1, 2-2-1 BIG EAST) defeated in-state rival Boston University 3-1 back on Tuesday, October 2, No. 24 Miami 4-2 on Friday, October 5, and No. 9 Connecticut 2-0 on Sunday, October 7. All three wins came on Newton Campus Soccer Field.
Rahko, a sophomore, earned offensive player of the week honors after scoring three goals and dishing out two assists over the three-game span. She tallied one goal against Boston University, and was Miami's worse nightmare on Friday as she scored two goals and dished out two assists. For the season, Rahko has seven goals and three assists for a total of 17 points. Her 17 points rank her sixth in the BIG EAST Conference. She has scored four goals and added two assists for a total of 10 points in conference action, which ranks her second behind only Connecticut forward Alexa Borisjuk, who has 11 points.
Rahko joins Connecticut forward Jessica Gjertsen as the only two conference players to earn offensive player of the week honors twice. Rahko earned the honor the first time back on September 10 following the UConn/Diadora Classic.
Meredith, a sophomore who also plays on the Eagle softball team, earned her first three collegiate wins last week, including her first shutout when Boston College defeated UConn 2-0. In the Eagles' three wins, she recorded 27 saves, including 10 against Connecticut. In BIG EAST Northeast Divisional games, Meredith is only giving up 1.48 goals per game.
Rahko, Meredith and the rest of the women's soccer team are back in action at 3 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, against in-state rival Harvard University at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
