PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - In a non-divisional BIG EAST contest, the Boston College women's soccer fell to Villanova University 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Villanova Soccer Stadium. The loss ended the Eagles' four-game conference winning streak.
Boston College (7-7-1, 3-2-1 BIG EAST) and Villanova (10-3-3, 2-2-2 BIG EAST) struggled to get one in the net until sophomore midfielder Candice MacDonald scored in the 44th minute of the game for the Wildcats. MacDonald received a touch pass from senior forward Julie Battista and buried the ball past Boston College sophomore goalkeeper Elyse Meredith. MacDonald's goal was the first one scored on Meredith in over 224 minutes, dating back to the Georgetown contest back on September 12.
MacDonald, who came off the bench at the 40-minute mark of the first half, tallied her second goal of the game early in the second half. Off a cross from midfielder Jessica Painchaud, MacDonald headed the ball past Meredith. MacDonald entered the game with only one goal on the season.
Villanova's final goal cane in the 72nd minute when freshman forward Laura Johnson scored her 10th goal of the season when she also received a cross, this time from junior midfielder Kristin Dunst, and headed the ball in the net.
For Boston College, midfielder Sarah Rahko led the team in shots with four, while forwards Katherine Halloran and Meghan Moore both had three apiece. Boston College finished with 14 shots while Villanova had 17. Meredith finished the game with eight saves.
The Eagles are back in action at 12:00 p.m. Sunday when they host Rutgers University at Newton Campus Soccer Field. The last time these two teams squared off was in 1999 when Boston College won 4-0 in Piscataway, N.J.
