Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Win Over Virginia Tech

NEWTON, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team continued its hot streak in the BIG EAST Conference on Sunday by defeating Virginia Tech 2-0 at Newton Campus Soccer Field. The win gave the Eagles their fourth-consecutive conference win and moved them into second place in the BIG EAST Northeast division.
On a rainy and cold day, Boston College (6-6-1, 4-2-1) was able to control play for almost the entire game. The Eagles first goal came in the 40th minute of action when midfielder Linsdey Fairweather received a perfect pass from defender Rebecca Brooke off a set piece and headed the ball over Virginia Tech goalkeeper Katie Hancock's head.
Boston College notched its other goal of the game in the 48th minute when forward Meghan Moore beat a defender one-on-one and powered a shot over Hancock's head. Moore was assisted on the play by midfielder Sarah Rakho. With the goal, Moore now has six goals and two assists on the season for a total of 14 points, while Rahko added to her team lead in assists as she now has five assists and seven goals for a total of 19 points.
Eagle goalkeeper Elyse Meredith recorded her fifth win of the season and her second shutout. She finished with five saves, which now gives her 55 on the season. Hancock finished the game with eight saves for Virginia Tech.
Boston College outshot Virginia Tech 25-8 for the game. Moore led the team with six shots.
The women's soccer team is back in action at 3 p.m. Tuesday, October 16, when it plays Rhode Island at Newton Campus Soccer Field.
