SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Boston College women's basketball team dropped its third-straight game, 59-56, at Seton Hall on Wednesday. Three Eagles scored in double figures but the team could not stop a strong Pirate rally late in the game.
Seton Hall took a four point lead early in the game. The Eagle defense limited the Pirates to only 29.6 percent shooting in the first half and the offense responded with a five-point spurt to close the first half. Becky Gottstein netted her eighth-consecutive point and then Janelle MaManus hit a three-pointer to lead the Eagles to a 26-21 halftime lead.
BC opened the second half with a 7-2 run that gave it a 10-point lead with 15:05 left to play. Jamie Cournoyer paced the run with five of her 11 second-half points. The Pirates came back and played strong defense and with 6:32 left to play, tied the game on two Charlene Thomas free throws. BC took a four-point lead on McManus' second trey in two trips down court. Starr Fuller made a jumper and then converted one of two free throws. Seton Hall then tied the game on an Arminda Moreno three pointer, but Gottstein gave BC a two-point advantage with a jumper coming out of a timeout. Fuller added two more free throws and Moreno scored on a driving layup to give Seton Hall its first lead since the first half with 2:58 to play.
The two teams traded layups and BC managed a one-point lead on a Gottstein free throw, but Seton Hall scored two baskets in the closing seconds to win the game.
Gottstein led the Eagles with 17 points, while Cournoyer had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. McManus added 11 points off the bench.
Moreno led all scorers with 20 points, while Thomas added 18 for Seton Hall. Fuller chipped in 11.
