Field Hockey Drops Match to UMass

Senior Kristen Schmidt's goal with 23:50 remaining in the first half was all Massachusetts needed to defeat Boston College, 1-0, at Alumni Stadium. The Eagles managed only two shots in the second half and were outshot 21-8 overall.
Boston College controlled play early in the game, but lost the offensive edge after the Minutewomen scored their lone goal. The second half was dominated by Massachusetts, where they put 11 shots on goal to only two for the Eagles. Massachusetts also held an eight to one edge in penalty corners in the game.
Keeper Zowie Tucker made five saves in the win for Massachusetts. Senior Jill Dedman kicked away 11 shots for Boston College in the loss.
Boston College, now 2-1 on the season, next travels to Palo Alto, Calif. to face Stanford on Friday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. PDT and Pacific on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. PDT at Stanford.
