STORRS, Conn. - Salla Ranta scored the game's only goal with less than twenty minutes remaining to defeat the Boston College Eagles 1-0 on Friday night in a BIG EAST women's soccer match at Morrone Stadium in Storrs. The win vaults the Huskies into the top spot in the BIG EAST Northeast Division, improving their record to 6-3-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. Boston College drops to 9-3, 3-1 in the BIG EAST.
Ranta scored the Huskies goal at the 72:51 mark. She took a deflection off Eagle keeper Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y.) and blasted it into the left corner of the BC net. The goal was assisted by junior Mary-Beth Bowie and senior Jen Carlson.
Sophomore goalie Maria Yatrakis earned her fifth shutout of the season, making one save in net. Scheffer made nine saves in the loss, ending her five match shutout strak. Overall, Connecticut outshot the Eagles 18-4 on the night.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday, October 4, when they travel across town to take on Harvard at 3 p.m.
