CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team recorded its fourth straight 2-0 victory today, as the Eagles defeated the Syracuse University Orangewomen in a BIG EAST match-up at the Boston College Soccer Fields in Newton. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y.) recorded five saves to pick up her third straight shutout.
After a scoreless first half, BC junior Meghan Moore (Santa Barbara, Calif.) scored the Eagles' first goal in the 50th minute, blasting a shot off of a run past Syracuse goalkeeper Katie Karlander. The Eagles tallied the insurance goal twenty minutes later when freshman Maureen Jenkins (The Woodlands, Texas) beat Karlander on a run similar to that of Moore's. This week's BIG EAST rookie of the week, Sarah Rahko (Londonderry, N.H.), fed Jenkins on the goal. In total, the Eagles out-shot Syracuse 30-11. With the win, the Eagles improve to 8-2-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in BIG EAST play. Syracuse drops to 6-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the BIG EAST with the loss.
Schaeffer, the 2000 BIG EAST preseason goalkeeper of the year and this week's BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week, has not allowed a goal in exactly 360 minutes. The last shot that she let slip past her was in the third minute of overtime against Colgate on Sept. 10. She currently boasts a 7-2-0 record, with six of those wins coming via clean sheets. She also stakes claim to a 0.89 goals-against average on the season. Schaeffer now holds a 43-20-6 career record with 33 shutouts and a career GAA of 0.87.
The Eagles' next game will be Sunday, September 24, when they take on another BIG EAST rival, St.John's, at the Boston College Soccer Fields in Newton. Game time is 12 noon.
