CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College women's soccer team recorded its third straight 2-0 victory today, as the Eagles defeated the University of New Hampshire at the Boston College Soccer Fields in Newton. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Schaeffer (South Huntington, N.Y.) recorded three saves to pick up her third straight shutout.
Sophomore Colleen Danaher (Rockford, Ill.) scored the Eagles' first goal in the 33rd minute, blasting a shot from 25 yards past Wildcat goalkeeper Stephanie Springer. This week's BIG EAST rookie of the week, Sarah Rahko (Londonderry, N.H.), assisted Danaher on the goal. In the second half, Danaher fed a pass to sophomore Katherine Halloran (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) who blew past both a defender and Springer to tuck in the insurance goal for BC. With the win, the Eagles improve to 7-2 on the season, while the Wildcats drop 2-4 overall.
Schaeffer, the 2000 BIG EAST preseason goalkeeper of the year and this week's BIG EAST goalkeeper of the week, has not allowed a goal in exactly 270 minutes. The last shot that she let slip past her was in the third minute of overtime against Colgate on Sept. 10. She currently boasts a 6-2 record, with five of those wins coming via clean sheets. She also stakes claim to a 1.00 goals-against average on the season. Schaeffer now holds a 42-20-6 career record with 32 shutouts and a career GAA of 0.88.
The Eagles' next game will be Friday, September 22, when they take on BIG EAST rival Syracuse at the Boston College Soccer Fields in Newton. Game time is 3 p.m.
