Field Hockey Ranked 14th in Nation by NFHCA

Chestnut Hill, Mass. - Head coach Sherren Granese's field hockey squad is ranked 14th in the nation in the first 2000 STX/NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) Division I National Coaches Poll, released today. The Eagles received 180 votes. Defending NCAA champion Maryland is ranked first and received all 25 first-place votes.
Boston College has a 4-1 record with wins over St. Joseph's, defending Mid America Conference champion Kent State, Stanford and Pacific. The team's lone loss came to #12 Massachusetts.
Six of the Eagles' 2000 opponents are ranked in the poll. Penn State, who Boston College faces on Sunday, Sept. 17 at home, is ranked fifth. Connecticut, the defending BIG EAST champion, is ranked eighth. Northeastern is 10th, Massachusetts is 12th, Boston University - the Eagles' next opponent on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Alumni Stadium - is 16th, and Syracuse is 20th.
