Field Hockey Takes Opener over St. Joseph's, 1-0

Senior tri-captain Morgan Brady scored her first career goal with 28:24 remaining in the game to lift the Boston College field hockey team over the visiting St. Joseph's Hawks, 1-0, at a hot and muggy Alumni Stadium. The win gave the Eagles a victory in their opening game of the 2000 season.
Brady's goal came off a penalty corner. Brady pushed the ball out on the corner to Jen Hall who faked a stop for hitter Amelie Wulff and passed off to Liz Flood who fed an open Brady in front of the cage. Brady, the team's sweeper, has amassed all seven of her career points (one goal, five assists) on penalty corners.
The game began as a back and forth battle between the two teams, with neither allowing the other any quality scoring chances off the attack. The best scoring chance in the first half came off an inbound play. Hall hit the ball across the field toward the cage, which found its way behind Hawk goalkeeper Lauren Bradley but deflected off the post and out of bounds.
In the second half, the Eagles controlled play and allowed St. Joseph's only a handful of offensive rushes while keeping the ball above midfield and keeping steady pressure on the Hawks and Bradley.
Senior Jill Dedman made one save and earned her 13th career shutout in the win. Bradley made six saves in the loss.
Boston College now has a 1-0 record and next faces Kent State on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 11 a.m. St. Joseph's, 0-1, faces Maine on Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. in Alumni Stadium.
