Women Compete at BIG EAST Championships

The women's track team traveled to Piscataway, N.J. to compete in the 2000 BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championships in temperatures in the mid-90s, April 5-7. The team finished 12th with 24 points in the 13-team field. The distance team paced the Eagles, scoring all but three of Boston College's points.
Junior Shannon Smith ran a 4:26.31 1,500-meter race to take third. In the 3000-meter competition, two Eagle runners scored. Freshman Cate Guiney ran sixth with a 9:49.62, followed by sophomore Katie Ryan in seventh with a 9:50.67. Freshman Maggie Guiney took fifth in the 10,000-meter race in 37:31.80 and was joined by sophomore Nicole Portley in eighth (38:59.17).
The 4x800-relay team took third place with their 8:59.32, and freshman Lindsay Hudnut threw a seventh-place toss in the javelin (122'10").
Selected members of the team will compete next week at the New England Championships, held at Northeastern's Dedham, Mass. track facility on May 12-13.
