Shafer Places Fifth at BIG EAST Championships

The men's track team competed at the annual BIG EAST Outdoor track Championships this weekend, held in mid-90 degrees temperatures at Rutgers' Piscataway, N.J. track facility. The team finished 13th in the field with six points.

Senior Brian Shafer ran a 9:20.44 in the 3000-meter steeplechase to claim fifth place. Classmate Derek Holland finished just out of the scoring in ninth. The 4x400-relay team took seventh place, running a 3:20.39.

The team will next compete at the New England Championships hosted by the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Conn. on May 12-13. Members of the team who have met qualifying standards will participate.
