The Boston College Women's Fencing Team took third place at the New England Collegeiate Championships on the strength of an outstanding performance by its foil squad. All three members of the foil squad qualified for the individual finals, finishing third, fourth, and fifth against a strong field. Epeeists Regina Lennox and Kate Boyle also qualified for the individual finals by finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, in their events. These results far exceeded the expectations held at the beginning of the season.
The tremendous performance of the BC fencers in the "Second - String Championships" also bodes well for the future of the team. Allison Maher took first place in foil, while Elizabeth "Biffy" Lennox and Maritza Martinez took fourth and fifth places. Epeeist Sonjah McBain took first place while fellow fencer Deya Chinquee took third. Finally, Anna Sheehy placed fifth in the individual sabre competition.
The next dates and competitions on the schedule for the women are the IFA Championships at Yale University on March 4th and 5th, and the NCAA Regional Tournament held at Vassar College on March 11.
