CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Cal Bouchard (Aurora, Ontario), a senior guard on the Boston College women's basketball team, has been awarded a 2000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Bouchard was one of 16 women's basketball players chosen to receive a $5,000 scholarship. The NCAA annually awards 174 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically that are in their last year of intercollegiate athletics competition. Bouchard received one of the six scholarships awarded to Division I women's basketball players. To qualify for a NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete must have an overall grade-point average of 3.000 (on a 4.000 scale) and must have performed with distinction athletically.
Bouchard finished her collegiate career fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,496 points and was recently named the winner of the Eagle of the Year Award, Boston College's highest athletic honor. As a senior, Bouchard was the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.6 points per game. She led the league in three point field goals made per game with an average of 2.83 and was selected to All-BIG EAST First Team. Bouchard participated in the WBCA All-Star Challenge at the NCAA Women's Final Four and competed in the annual College Three-Point Basketball Championship at the NCAA Men's Final Four. The senior captain also earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors as a sophomore before a knee injury sidelined her for the second half of the 1998-99 season. Bouchard became the first women's basketball player in school history to be selected in the WNBA draft when she was drafted by the Detroit Shock in the fourth round (60th pick).
In addition to her athletic awards, Bouchard has been honored for her academic accomplishments at Boston College. She was selected as the 1999-2000 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete and was a Rhodes Scholar candidate. A four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, she was named to the Dean's List eight semesters.
