Track Opens Spring Season with Snowflake Classic

The men's track team opened their outdoor season at the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University on Saturday, April 1 in Medford. Eagle athletes won four events and had 11 other top-five finishes.
Juniors Dan Fitzgerald, Justin Burdon and Jeff Normant won the 800-meters, 1500-meters and 400-meter low hurdles, respectively, while freshman Brad Chun took top honors in the pole vault.
Fitzgerald's 1:57 led a group of five Eagle runners in the top seven. Mike McKenzie, Mike Krashes, James Mann and Brian Shafer followed Fitzgerald in fourth through seventh place.
Boston College also placed four runners in the top five behind Burdon. Shafer ran to a second-place finish while Vernon Mickle and Brian Mahoney were fourth and fifth.
In the 400-meter hurdles, Normant won with a 54:71 and was followed in third by Erik DeMarco.
Other top scorers came from Pete Vaglio (third - 400-meters), Bennett Valencia (fifth - 400-meters), Matt Ramsey (third - 110-meter high hurdles), Jason Pink (third - pole vault), and Gabe Verdaguer (fifth - pole vault, fourth - long jump).
The men's track team will next compete at the Connecticut Invitational on April 8 in Storrs, Conn. Selected athletes will travel to Durham, N.C. to participate in the annual Duke Relays on April 7-8.
