April 28, 2000 | Fencing
BC Women's Fencing won two competitions and lost three at Saturday's meet held at Brandeis University. The scores for the competitions were as follows: MIT 15 - BC 12, Brown 16 - BC 11, St John's 20 - BC 7, BC 19, Vassar 8, BC 18 - Brandeis 9. Overall, their record stands at 6 wins and 3 losses.
As a result of their performances at the Brandeis meet, two fencers for the women's team qualified for the national Under-20 Junior Olympic Championships, earning a chance to compete in Sacramento, CA, in February. Freshmen sisters Kate and Sue Boyle both placed high enough in their respective events, epee and foil, to qualify. The Junior Olympics are the US Fencing Association's Naitonal Championships for the Under-20 and the Under-17 age groups. They are also a selection event for national teams.
The team will be hosting their first home meet of the season on January 22, 2000. Attending the meet will be UNH, Brandeis, BU, and MIT.
