CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College senior guard Cal Bouchard was selected by the Detroit Shock in the fourth round (60th pick) of the 2000 WNBA Draft on April 25. Bouchard is the first Boston College women's basketball player ever selected in the WNBA draft.
Bouchard finished her career at Boston College fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,496 points. As a senior, Bouchard was the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.6 points per game. She led the league in three point field goals made per game with an average of 2.83 and was selected to All-BIG EAST First Team. Bouchard participated in the WBCA All-Star Challenge at the NCAA Women's Final Four and competed in the annual College Three-Point Basketball Championship at the NCAA Men's Final Four. The senior guard also earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors as a sophomore before a knee injury sidelined her for the second half of the 1998-99 season.
In addition to her athletic awards, Bouchard was honored for her academic accomplishments at Boston College. She was selected as the 1999-2000 BIG EAST Women's Basketball Scholar-Athlete and was a Rhodes Scholar candidate. A three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star, she was named to the Dean's List seven semesters.
