Women's Track Takes 11th at BIG EAST Championships

The women's track team finished 11th at the 2000 Indoor BIG EAST Track Championships hosted by Syracuse University, February 19-20. Villanova won the women's competition with 101 points, edging out Georgetown's 101.5 points.
Senior Shannon Smith scored in two races, taking second in the 3000M in 9:33 and third in the 5000M with a 16:44. The team's co-captain earned 14 of Boston College's 25 total points.
Freshman Jenifer Vendetti earned a fourth-place showing in the 800M, running a 2:12.22. Also scoring for the Eagles was sophomore Katie Ryan, who took sixth-place in the Mile with her 4:54.88.
In the field events, junior Kristyn O'Brien placed seventh in the pole vault, leaping to a 9'4.25" showing.
The other Eagles point came from the 4x800M team comprised of Ryan, freshman Rachel D'Amora, sophomore Meghan Cunniff and junior Lisa McIsaac. The team ran to an eighth-place finish in 12:14.57.
The next meet for Boston College will be the New England Championships on February 25-26 hosted by the University of Southern Maine in Portland. Team members who have posted qualifying marks will participate in the competition.
